The Cavendish Experiment

چکیده

The quantities ml and ms are the masses of two objects whose spatial separation is R. The value of the constant of proportionality, G, was not known to Newton and, in fact, was not accurately determined until the latter half of the nineteenth century. The calculation of its value was based on the results of an experiment to determine the density of the earth performed by Henry Cavendish, and published in 1798.1 The purpose of this experiment is to perform a modern version of the Cavendish experiment, determine the gravitational constant, G, and compare it to its accepted value.

The Cavendish Experiment in General Relativity∗

Solutions of Einstein’s equations are discussed in which the “gravitational force” is balanced by an electrical force, and which can serve as models for the Cavendish experiment.

Some Physical Properties of Full-Ripe Banana Fruit (Cavendish variety)

Physical properties of fruits and vegetables are the subject of many researches because of its importance in designing of agricultural machinery. Banana fruit is one of important fruit. In this study some physical properties of banana fruit (Cavendish variety) were determined. Properties which were measured included weight of whole fruit peel and pulp weight, dimensions, surface area and projec...

The theoretical significance of G ∗

The quantization of gravity, and its unification with the other interactions, is one of the greatest challenges of theoretical physics. Current ideas suggest that the value of G might be related to the other fundamental constants of physics, and that gravity might be richer than the standard NewtonEinstein description. This gives added significance to measurements of G and to Cavendish-type exp...

Analysis of Induced Mutants of Salinity Resistant Banana (Musa acuminata cv. Dwarf Cavendish) Using Morphological and Molecular Markers

Genetic diversity amongst 21 induced mutant clones tolerant to salinity along with one non-irradiated sensitive clone of banana (Musa acuminata cv. Dwarf Cavendish (AAA)) were studied using morphological and random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Out of the 30 phenotypic indices screened, 23 were polymorph and two traits, leaf habit and blotches color, were differentiated by non-irrad...

MARGARET CAVENDISH AND THE ROYAL SOCIETY by

It is often claimed that Margaret Cavendish was an anti-experimentalist who was deeply hostile to the activities of the early Royal Society—particularly in relation to Robert Hooke’s experiments with microscopes. Some scholars have argued that her views were odd or even childish, while others have claimed that they were shaped by her genderbased status as a scientific ‘outsider’. In this paper ...
